Our guiding principle is to develop a close liaison with management to look at underlying causes and address sensitively medical issues on a case by case basis.
O'Connor and Associates adopt the highest ethical standards of confidentiality when dealing with individual cases. Employees are involved at all stages of any assessment with full explanations given and consents obtained.
O'Connor and Associates have particular expertise with complex cases of long term sickness absence and have developed a reputation for reports that are authoritative, concise, providing a clear pathway for HR management to progress a case.

GP liaison

By letter or telephone if needed. Generally speaking most GPs respond very quickly to a medical colleague. This has obvious benefits to employees in terms of speed of processing. All letter generation/postage included in retainer contract price.

Specialist referrals

As a registered NHS Plus provider of occupational health services there will also be access when/if needed to specialist occupational assistance from the UBHT occupational health department inclusive of retainer contract price.

Management Training - bespoke and standard topics

Working with small groups, (Line Managers, employees) or larger presentations. Workshops very popular and ability to engage key work force members in local initiatives with Health and Safety issues. Format and duration by agreement.

Development of protocols

Working with key line managers and Human Resources department to increase their understanding of heath and legal issues and how these relate to managing staff and sickness absence. Topics arranged by agreement.

Female doctors

Should employee sensitivities dictate that the need arises for a female doctor for certain activities then this can be provided with the same notice by a female GP with occupational health qualifications.

Standards

Accessibility

The key to a successful arrangement from the company perspective is getting prompt accurate appropriate advice when an employee situation arises. Same working day response to a request for advice is standard.

Confidentiality


As a members of the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of General Practitioners and the Society for Occupational Health the highest standards of care, both in my dealings with individual patients and with respect to issues of confidentiality are scrupulously maintained.

Medical records covering every interaction with any employee are securely stored.

This record is not available to management staff but reports derived from it are of course possible with the employees' permission and in accordance with the Data Protection Act and the Access to Medical Records/Reports Acts. The records will be maintained for the statutory periods applicable.

Ethics


O&A follow the Faculty of Occupational Health's ethical code. This covers issues like the storage of records and management access to such, as well as the proper way to interface between the organisation and other clinicians involved in an employees care.

Company Representation

In correspondence O&A doctors will identify themselves as the company doctor and act at all times when dealing with third parties in a manner that will not bring the company name into disrepute.
